Rolex Submariner
The Rolex Submariner was introduced in 1953 as the first dive watch waterproof to a depth of 100 meters (later increased to 300 meters). The watch was designed for professional divers and submarine crews, but quickly grew into a cultural icon equally at home in the boardroom as underwater. The Submariner was one of the first watches featuring a rotating bezel that allowed divers to track their underwater time.
Throughout the decades, the Submariner has undergone countless evolutions, yet its core design has remained remarkably consistent. The reference 5513, produced from 1962 to 1989, is one of the longest-produced Rolex models and a favorite among collectors. In 2003, Rolex celebrated the 50th anniversary with reference 16610LV, nicknamed "Kermit" for its green bezel, the beginning of a tradition of green accents on the Submariner.
The modern Submariner generation, introduced in 2020 with references 124060 (no date) and 126610LN (date), brought an increase in case size to 41 mm and the new caliber 3230/3235. These movements offer an extended power reserve of 70 hours thanks to the Chronergy escapement. The Cerachrom bezel in black or green is virtually indestructible and does not fade from UV exposure.
The Submariner holds a special place in popular culture. It was James Bond's watch in the early films starring Sean Connery, and has been worn by countless celebrities, heads of state, and explorers. Whether it is the steel sports version or the luxurious two-tone execution, the Submariner remains the benchmark for every dive watch.
